An artist with a diverse range of expression from picture books and character design to public art.
During his stay in Angola as an archaeologist in the 1960s and 1970s, he was influenced by the symbolism of African art and became an artist, creating works permeated with different visual expressions from Europe and Africa. His works are in the collections of museums around the world, and as a national artist representing Portugal, he has been involved in numerous national projects, including the design of characters for the Lisbon Expo and creating monuments to commemorate the return of Macau to China. With his use of vivid colors and unique character expressions, he has also been involved in signage projects for the Miyagi Prefectural Library, Echigo-Tsumari, and Setouchi Triennale.
