Esther Albardané 1947 - 2003

Born in 1947 in Barcelona, Spain. Passed away in 2004.
She had been active mainly in Barcelona for many years, working in a wide range of media including oil paintings, monotypes, and etchings, as well as large-scale three-dimensional works. The most frequent motif in her paintings is women, often combined with the sea, fish, the moon, dogs, fruit, and so on. The entire image is covered with subdued colors, as if a gentle, fresh Mediterranean breeze were blowing. On the other hand, the relation between women and society and her own memories are also included to make us think about the everyday life of women, and we can feel the her own style oozing out from her personality.

"Giant Gardener" 2000, Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2000 photo by Nakamura Osamu

Along the path, deep in the woods, visitors will find parts of a giant human figure such as face, fingers and feet. Giants have worked as gardeners in this land since long ago. Occasionally, they would stick their feet or hands above the ground without realizing it. Let us walk, guided by the giant gardener, feeling the life in the soil we step on and the trees behind us.
