SoKo Permanent collections : The World of Yukihisa Isobe

August 8th (Sat) - 16th (Sun) , 2020

Yukihisa Isobe Memorial Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum of Art[SoKo] is pleased to announce solo exhibition of Yukihisa Isobe from our permanent collections.

The main building of this museum was originally inaugurated in 2015 as the Kiyotsu Warehouse Museum in a renovated space that was a former gymnasium in the closed Kiyotsukyo Primary School. It was based upon an alternative concept of a museum as being a place for “presenting and storing artworks”. In pursuit of this agenda, the museum was re-opened as Yukihisa Isobe Memorial Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum of Art [SoKo] in 2018 through the renovation of the school building to increase capacity.
The permanent collections in the school building are the works of Yukihisa Isobe which were donated to celebrate the re-launch of SoKo. Since 2000, Mr. Isobe has been presenting artworks visualising the characteristics of specific places, such as the series of four artworks featuring the Shinanogawa river including Where Has the River Gone, as well as Monument of Mudslide, and has been deeply engaged with the festival, helping to provide its conceptual backbone. The permanent collections introduce the diverse works and projects of Isobe from the 1950s to the present in the form of artworks, video footages and documentations.
