Tatsuo Kawaguchi was born in Kobe-city in Hyogo prefecture in 1940 and graduating from Tama Art University in 1962, Kawaguchi has been one of the most prominent Japanese contemporary artists for over 50 years, and he is still on the front line. Using metals such as iron, copper and lead, or energy such as light and heat, and fossils and plants seeds, he has been creating conceptual artworks highlighting relations between materials and humans and time. Since his participation in the first Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in 2000, he has created artworks for Matsudai Nohbutai, one of the hub facilities built in Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2003 as well as participating in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in 2012.
